A worked example
A sample motor premium of ₹10,000 before GST comes to ₹11,800.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Premium before GST | ₹10,000 |
| GST at 18% | ₹1,800 |
| Total with GST | ₹11,800 |
The assumptions in that example
- Motor: 18% on the premium. A goods vehicle on third-party only takes 5% from 22-09-2025; with own damage, 18% on the whole premium, as most insurers show. Check against the policy schedule.
Estimate only, not advice.
How it is worked out
Individual life and health policies, family floaters too: no GST on premiums paid on or after 22-09-2025. The date of payment decides, not the due date. The rate you type always wins over a built-in one. More in the guide to GST on premiums.
Common questions
What if the premium was paid before 22-09-2025?
The old rates were not verified, so they are not built in. Type the rate on the receipt.
Can I enter a premium that already includes GST?
Yes. Choose "With GST" and the tool works backwards.
Is the goods vehicle rate certain?
No. The 5% on third-party only and the 18% on a comprehensive policy come from search summaries, and no notification was read. Check the policy schedule.
